ESF Sailing

6.5-10 years 

The sport of sailing is diverse and our programme aims to introduce students to the various facets of Dinghy sailing. Students can progress in the direction which most suits their abilities.

Our programme covers the following:

  • Rigging
  • Care of equipment
  • Launching
  • Knots

Sailing teaches children many skills, such as:

  • Importance of good team work
  • Having a good sense of direction
  • Spatial awareness
  • Building self-confidence and independence 
  • Good "shipshape" habits

Recommended items for Sailing 

Sailing is a water sport and students are expected to get wet. Below is a guideline to help with dressing for the weather conditions. 

Summer Winter
  • A bottle of water
  • Suntan lotion
  • Hat
  • Loose, or stretchy top (SPF Fabric will prevent sunburn)
  • Shorts or Sports Leggings
  • Lightweight shoes which will stay on your feet if you are in the water
  • Warm under layer - thermal is advisable to wick water away from your body
  • Fleece middle layer for warmth
  • A Windproof/Splashproof/Waterproof top
  • Warm socks
  • Lightweight shoes which will stay on your feet if you are in the water
  • Warm hat

Buoyancy aids and helmets will be provided.  Buoyancy aids must be worn by all participants when on the dock / in the boats.

 Showers are available on-site (no towels will be provided)

Adverse Weather Arrangements:

In the event of a Thunderstorm Warning, Strong Monsoon Signal, Strong Winds (T1 or T3 – Tropical Depression), the practical session may be cancelled for safety reasons. Instead, a theory class will be held ashore where possible.
