ESF Tigers Basketball - Progression 

 

Beginners Age Range

Beginners basketball class (BA1)

5 - 6 years

An introductory level class helping youngsters learn fundamental skills such as catching, throwing, dribbling, passing, running, jumping and other gross motor skills including hand-eye co-ordination and balance through fun games and activities.
 
Improvers Age Range

Improvers basketball class (BA2)

7 - 8 years

Youngsters will continue to work on their fundamental basketball skills and be introduced to new skills such as shooting techniques including lay-ups. They will also be given an introduction to basic team concepts through small-sided games e.g. 3-on-3 matches.
 

Advanced

Age Range

Advanced basketball class (BA3)

 

9 - 10 years

Players will develop body movement fundamentals learning how to jump stop and stride stop; changing pace and direction, pivoting, triple threat and defensive stance. In addition, footwork skills will be developed and man-to-man defense will be introduced. Small-sided game concepts will cover 4-on-4 team play.
 

Advanced basketball class (BA4)

 

11 - 12 years

Secondary school players will develop their dribbling skills and continue to develop their shooting techniques. 5-on-5 offensive team play concepts will be introduced including screening and individual defensive skills will be enhanced.
 
Advanced basketball class (BA5)  

13 - 14 years

Players are now ready to start learning offensive set plays and be introduced to team defense concepts including rebounding and boxing-out.  
   

Advanced basketball class (BA6)15 - 16 years

Players who have a reasonable amount of basketball experience and want to play in a recreational intramural environment rather than an intensive, competitive one.
 
Girls Only Age Range

Girls only basketball class (BAG3)

 

9 - 10 years

Girls will develop body movement fundamentals learning how to jump stop and stride stop; changing pace and direction, pivoting, triple threat and defensive stance. Development Academy Programme

Age Range

Development Academy Programme for players born in 2007/08 (BADAC07)

7 - 8 years

A new Under 9s Development Academy Basketball programme for youngsters to accelerate learning of their basketball skills so that they can play in intramural competitions against other Academies. These classes include a midweek after-school session plus an extra Saturday training session at one of three Academy venues.  
   
Development Academy Programme for players born in 2005/06 (BADAC05) 9 - 10 years
Our Under 11s Development Academy Basketball programme is for those players who want to enhance their basketball skills so that they can play in intramural competitions against other Academies. These classes include a midweek after-school session plus an extra Saturday training session at one of three Academy venues.  
   

Development Academy Programme for players born in 2003/04 (BADAC03)

11 - 12 years

Our Under 13s Development Academy Basketball programme is for those players who want to prepare themselves to participate in an Elite Academy team programme in the future. Opportunities exist for not only intramural competition but also against external competition. These sessions include a midweek after-school session plus an extra Saturday training session at one of three Academy venues.  
   
Development Academy Programme for players born in 2001/02 (BADAC01) 13 - 14 years
Our Under 15s Development Academy Basketball programme is for those players who prefer to play recreationally as opposed to competitively in one of our Elite Academy programmes. Opportunities exist for intramural competition with occasional external competition. Players who have not been successful in being invited to join one of our Elite teams should consider this programme to continue developing their skills. These sessions include a midweek after-school session plus an extra Saturday training session at one of three Academy venues.  
   

Development Academy Programme for players born in 1999/2000 (BADAC99)

15 - 16 years

Our Under 17s Development Academy Basketball programme is for those players who prefer to play recreationally as opposed to competitively in one of our Elite Academy programmes. Opportunities exist for intramural competition with occasional external competition. Players who have not been successful in being invited to join one of our Elite teams should consider this programme to continue developing their skills. These sessions include a midweek after-school session plus an extra Saturday training session at one of three Academy venues.
