I gained my teaching qualification at Durham University before teaching Art & PE in Doncaster, South Yorkshire.
When my daughter started swimming with a local club and I was called on to help out I thought it was time for me to learn to swim and take the appropriate qualifications to teach swimming.
My passion for swimming grew from that time, over 20yrs ago.During the subsequent years I have taught in school swimming, after school lessons and adults, including all ability levels from beginners to squad swimmers and those with disabilities.
My swimming knowledge has increased to include coaching synchronised swimming and water polo.
During the last 10 years I have established successful swimming programmes in three local Councils in the North East of England, gaining an industry kite mark of excellence for my last authority. In managing and developing the swimming programmes my tasks included; training staff to deliver quality sessions, establishing good working relationships with partners, ensuring swimmer pathways were in place and introducing new activities. These will also form the basis of my focus with the ESF swimming programme.
I became an accredited swimming Tutor with the ASA in 1995, which enabled me to teach people how to teach and share my passion for the sport. As a volunteer I was also involved with a local swimming club for numerous years becoming head coach in 2003 – 2005, after which I started a sychronised swimming club and set up a junior water polo club.
