Swimming

The Sharks Swimming Programme is the ideal
opportunity for young children to experience
a positive and exciting introduction to water
and the sport of swimming. Swimming is a
life skill and a healthy activity for any age. Our
programme will monitor a child’s development
allowing them to progress through the levels
at a pace suitable to the individual. The water
is a fantastic place to develop kinesthetic sense,
gliding and buoyancy.
ESF Educational Services offers a swimming programme
based around the FUNdamental skills of swimming, teaching
through the medium of games and activities, in addition to
traditional methods, following the UK ASA National Plan for
the Teaching of Swimming.
The Sharks swimming programme offers learn to swim classes
for children from 18 months onwards and adults; competitive
swimming opportunities in the squad development sessions
and water polo.
Adult and Child (SW0 & SW0A) 18 – 36months
Aquabub and Aquatot sessions will follow the UK ASA
Ducklings programme. Through fun games and activities
your child will build confidence in the water and learn basic
swimming skills.
Levels 1 – 3; 3 – 5yr olds (SW1; SW2; SW3) Tadpole, Frog, Goldfish
All children in these levels will be taught key water skills
including, safe entries and exits, aquatic breathing, submerging,
flotation, rotation, travelling and treading water. There will be a
record of achievement card for each child and upon completion
of 10 skills your child will gain the tadpole certificate. When your
child has completed 20 skills they will receive the Frog certificate
and upon completion of all 30 skills a Goldfish certificate.
Levels 4 – 5; 5yrs + (SW4 & SW5) Dolphin & Stingray

on freestyle and backstroke and be introduced to breaststroke
and butterfly. Stamina levels will increase by swimming
further distances. Sculling techniques will be extended;
tumble turns and elementary diving skills will be introduced.
Achievements
Each level has specific tasks for children to achieve. The
swimmers will be continually assessed and their progress will
be recorded by the coaches. At the end of each term children
will receive a certificate of achievement and a report on their
progress.
Competitive Squad (SW8)
Having completed Level 7, swimmers will possess a high
level of competence to train with the competitive squad. The
programme will concentrate on improving stroke technique,
be set around specific targets for improving swimmers’ times
and focus on certain competitions during the year.
All squad swimmers will be encouraged to train more than
once a week, should they wish to do so.
Swimmers moving into the squad sessions will be expected
to make a commitment to compete in Hong Kong ASA

with Hong Kong ASA.
