Welcome to ESF International Kindergartens

Where inquiry begins

Our Mission Statement:
We provide an educationally caring, supportive and enriching environment to nurture and stimulate children's abilities and talents. Through inquiry based learning and play we encourage children's natural curiosity and creativity, develop their personal and social skills, inspire them with a life-long love of learning and the confidence to fulfil their potential.

Our kindergartens

Our kindergartens offer an English language education for children aged 3 to 5 years and educate children from a diversity of backgrounds, making them truly international settings. The learning environment is highly interactive and children are encouraged to learn through exciting and fun hands-on experiences. Our curriculum is highly interactive and play-based, and has been structured to promote learning through inquiry. We also introduce children to the culture and language of China.

ESF International Kindergartens are candidate schools* for the Primary Years Programme. These schools are pursuing authorization as IB World Schools. IB World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education—that we believe is important for our students.

Our locations

We run four ESF International Kindergartens in Hong Kong and the New Territories.

While all different, each kindergarten enjoys spacious accommodation and provides extensive class and play space.

Our programme

Each kindergarten offers two sessions a day, morning and afternoon, and our year follows the ESF calendar. A typical session involves the children working in large and small groups and individually, on topics of their own interest and in teacher supported learning centres. Learn more about the programmes at each kindergarten by visiting their webpages.

Quality teaching

Each kindergarten is led by a Principal, all of whom bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in educating early years and primary children. We pride ourselves on the standards we set for teaching and learning, and our people make all the difference. With high adult to child ratios, our programmes are planned and developed by highly experienced teachers and each class is led by a qualified early years teacher and supported by Educational Assistants. Putonghua language skills are delivered by native speakers.

Reporting system

At ESF International Kindergartens we believe that parents should be well informed about their child’s progress. Parents will receive a portfolio which will be a reflection of their child’s learning journey at kindergarten. This may be in either paper or electronic format and will include examples of learning across all areas of the curriculum. Teachers will report on each child’s progress three times a year. This will be through written reports and/or parent-teacher meetings.
In addition, parents are welcome to make appointments to meet with their child’s teacher at any time throughout the year if they wish to discuss their child’s progress or if they have any concerns or questions.

Involving our parents

We recognize and appreciate the unique role that parents play in their child’s education and actively encourage parents to be fully informed about their child’s progress and to participate in their kindergarten. Through daily diaries, online information, newsletters and regular reporting, parents are kept informed about their child’s progress and achievements. Parents are encouraged to get involved with their kindergarten and volunteer their time.

Moving on to Primary School

Most of our children move on to an ESF primary school or to an ESF Private Independent School and ESF International Kindergartens provide an ideal preparation for school. Our teaching methods include aspects of inquiry, exploration and investigation, as do those of the ESF Primary schools. This helps provide continuity in the learning experiences for all the children who move onto an ESF school which follow the IB Organisation’s Primary Years Programme.
